제목 | An Effect of Composition Drift on Optical Properties of Copolymer |
초록 | It is well known that the copolymerization is very useful method to get desirable properties, such as balanced thermal and mechanical properties from mixture of different monomers for the purpose of use. However, it is very unlikely to obtain excellent optical properties from copolymerization, especially if the reactivity ratios of copolymerizable monomers are quite different each other. It can be rationalized that the instantaneous composition of initial stage were quite different from that of final stage, so called "composition drift", eventually one would get a various compositional mixture of copolymers. The composition drift can cause a heterogeneity in the copolymer, in turn, which affects optical properties of polymers for optical communication considerably since the optical properties of polymer for optical communication has to be adjusted more precisely. In this work, we concerned the dependence of optical properties, e.g. refractive index and optical loss, etc., on composition drift in copolymer which was obtained from monomers with relatively large difference in reactivity ratios, MMA (r1: 1.72) and maleimide (r2: 0.17). The composition of random copolymer was characterized H1-NMR and GC. Thermal and optical properties were characterized DSC, TGA and UV-spectrometer and prism coupler. |
