제목 Rheological and Thermal Characterizations of Ultra High Molecular Weight Polyethylene (UHMWPE) Gels
초록 UHMWPE has excellent mechanical properties. However, its application is limited because of its high melt viscosity which does not allow melt processing. Consequently a gel spinning using appropriate solvent should be considered. We have measured the rheological properties of UHMWPE gels in decaline at various concentrations (2, 6 and 10%) in abroad temperature (110℃, 130℃ and 150℃) and shear rate ranges (10-1~102). The result showed that the gel point and viscosity of the UHMWPE gel increased with increasing gel concentration. At temperatures above the gel point, all flow curves showed shear thinning behavior. The gel viscosity linearly and smoothly decreased during cooling down to the gel point presumably due to the chain orientation. However, below the gel point the viscosity dramatically increased with decreasing temperature accompanied by the crystallization temperature.
