Morphology, Rheological and Thermal Properties ofOrganoclay Reinforced Ultra High Molecular Weight Polyethylene(UHMWPE) |

Rheological, thermal, mechanical properties and morphology of UHMWPE/Organoclay nanocomposites were investigated in this work. The UHMWPE/Organoclay nanocomposite were prepared by solution mixing. TEM images and XRD results showed that the organoclay was exfoliated and well dispersed into UHMWPE matrix. We have measured the rheological properties of the UHMWPE/Organoclay in decaline with various organoclay contents(0, 1, 2, 3 and 5pphr) at various temperatures (110, 130 and 150℃) in a broad range of shear rate ranges (10-1~102) at a gel concentration, 6wt%. The result showed that the viscosity of the nanocomposite increased with increasing organoclay contents. The results of TGA indicated enhanced thermal resistance of nanocomposites as compared with virgin UHMWPE. DSC data showed that the crystallinity of UHMWPE/Organoclay nanocomposite increased with increasing organoclay contents implying that the organoclay functioned as nucleating agent. |
