제목 | Surface-tailored Carbon Dots Surfactants for Stabilizing Oil-in-Water Emulsion and Producing Fluorescent Polymer Miscroshpere |
초록 | Carbon dots (CDs) have been considered as effective surfactants for emulsion stabilization due to their fascinating fluorescence property, chemical stability, biocompatibility, and presence of functional oxygen-containing groups. Although CDs have extraordinary potentials as functional surfactants, strong hydrophilic properties of CDs limit their application for stabilizing emulsions. In this study, surface property of CDs was precisely controlled by grafting hydrophobic alkyl ligands, and we demonstrated surface-tailored CDs for stabilizing oil-in-water emulsions. The density of hydrophobic alkyl ligands on the CDs and the CDs concentration on the emulsion stability were investigated in detail. In addition, we successfully polymerized styrene-in-water emulsions stabilized by the CDs emulsifier for producing highly stable and uniform polystyrene microspheres with enriched fluorescent emission.
