Bacterial cellulose nanofibirils (BCFs) have been of great interest in engineering high-performance soft matter films, since it can provide intriguing mechanical properties to them. Herein, utilizing this unprecedented feature of BCFs, we fabricated a mechanically robust emulsion film by layer-by-layer deposition (LbL). We carried out the LbL deposition of nanoemulsion using BCFs instead of conventional polymer electrolytes. Basically, the emulsion films prepared using BCFs showed significantly enhanced film moduli. Also, we confirmed that not only the phase separation speed was drastically reduced but also the separated domain size was formed to be smaller. Furthermore, through drug release experiments, we found that the micropores formed in the BCF layer play a crucial role in drug release rate control. |
