Our life is only an intermediate in history. It is the wish of every human to leave his footprint in history. The footprint can be small or remarkable. I have the honor to speak about a person who left a giant footprint: Prof. Yoo, Ki-pung. He was born in the same year as me: 1952, the year of the golden dragon. He was educated at the famous Korea university, where he met a mentor with whom he publishes even today: Prof. Lee, Chulsoo. Prof. Lee influenced him in terms of theoretical thermodynamics, so Prof. Yoo’s PhD with Prof. Anderson at the University of Connecticut was a simple extrapolation of his education. Prof. Yoo visited the US repeatedly and even stayed one year in Germany where he acquired his remarkable good German language. I counted 197 publication in peer-reviewed journals and 12 patents. The publications refer with equal shares to the research areas “Thermophysical data”, “lattice-fluid-models and equations of state” and “application of high pressure technology”. We two people share the passion for thermodynamics and high pressure. But in contrary to me, Prof. Yoo became president of Sogang University and thus a famous person in his country. |
