Several gases are evolved from the reaction between organic electrolytes and electrodes in lithium ion batteries. The kinds and amounts of gases depend on the nature of electrolytes and the active materials of electrodes. In addition, manufacturing process and battery user’s environment also determine the composition of the gases. As batteries is charged and discharged, the gases are converted other gases by the electrochemical reaction on the electrode. In this presentation, the origin and behaviors of gases in lithium ion batteries will be discussed and the method of gas analysis also introduced. |
