Porous materials with high surface area, due to their diverse potential applications in separators, electronics, and catalysts, have attracted extensive attention. In general, the microporous nanoparticles previously called “Davankov-resin” is synthesized via emulsion polymerization and Friedel-crafts reaction. However, it needs to eliminate used ionic emulsifiers in polymerization before Friedel-crafts reaction. To overcome this drawback, in this study, an alkali-soluble resin (ASR ; poly(styrene-co-acrylic acid)) was used as a polymeric emulsifier in the emulsion polymerization of vinylbenzyl chloride (VBC) / divinyl benzene (DVB) precursor nanoparticles. Highly porous nanoparticles were prepared via Friedel-crafts reaction of the precursor using FeCl3, Lewis-acid catalyst. Friedel-crafts type hyper crosslinking reaction of these precursors yields uniform microporous nanoparticles with extremely high surface area and micropore volume. |
