제목 | Catalytic transformation of 2,5-furandicarboxylic acid to adipic acid via hydrogenation and hydrogenolysis over a more sustainable catalyst |
초록 | Catalytic synthesis of adipic acid (AA) from biomass-derived chemicals eliminates environmental concerns of industrial AA manufacture from the use of carcinogenic benzene-derived precursors as feedstocks. Herein, we report a two-step pathway for producing AA from 2,5-furan dicarboxylic acid (FDCA) via tetrahydrofuran-2,5-dicarboxylicacid (THFDCA) and 2-hydroxyadipic acid (HAA) over a recyclable Ru/Al2O3 and an ionic liquid system, [MIM(CH2)4SO3H]I(MIM = methylimidazolium) to deliver 99% of overall yield of AA. Ru/Al2O3 was found to be an efficient catalyst for the hydrogenation of FDCA to THFDCA and HAA, where Ru is economically viable than Pd or Rh. [MIM(CH2)4SO3H]I was newly applied to the hydrogenolysis of HAA-mediated THFDCA to AA, which exhibited superior activity toward AA and reduced the severe corrosion problems caused by the conventional HI catalytic system.
