Facile and non-toxic size control of germanium nanoparticle |

We synthesize Ge nanoparticles (NPs) via laser pyrolysis of GeH4 gas which is facile and economic system, and the size of NP can be precisely controlled in the range of 19.0 to 65.9 nm. The size control is accomplished by a simple, non-toxic etching procedure using a dilute hydrogen peroxide solution. The nanoparticles are well dispersed in water solutions and can form good thin film. Also we demonstrate that GeO2 layer which helps Ge NPs disperse into H2O can be easily removed by a final etching step with HCl. With HCl treatment, the surface of Ge NP is passivated with chlorine which helps to stop growing GeO2 layer. The scalability and convenience of this procedure make it attractive as a method to obtain Ge NP dispersions for use in applications such as optoelectronic devices and biosensors. |
