In this work, control of the handedness of helical nanofilaments (HNFs) formed by achiral bent-core molecules is demonstrated using chiral dopants. Doping chiral dopants into the achiral bent-core molecules was regarded as one of the effective method to control the handedness HNFs. However, in actual the doping method in bent-core molecular systems showed scarcely effects on induced handedness of HNFs in most cases. This is because that mesophases found in the bent-core molecules are different from conventional phase found in rodlike molecules. Hence, we blended a bent-core molecule possessing HNFs into a rod like molecule with the conventional nematic (N) phase whose transition temperature from Isotropic to N shows higher temperature over an appearance temperature of HNFs. Consequently, we succeeded in obtaining homochiral HNFs by doping a small amount of chiral dopants into the mixture. |
