Synthesis and characterization of poly(trifluoroethylene-co-hexafluoropropylene) and its solution blend with poly(methyl methacrylate) |

Copolymers of trifluoroethylene (TrFE) and hexafluoropropylene (HFP) were synthesized and characterized by various instrumental techniques. The maximum incorporation of HFP was 19.6 mol% in the copolymers considered in this study. It was found that the reactivity ratios of TrFE and HFP were rTrFE = 4.12 and rHFP≈0, respectively. It was also found that the incorporation of HFP in copolymer chain influences thermal properties. As increasing HFP content in copolymers, the melting temperature and crystallinity of copolymers were decreased. According to experimental results on the spin-coated thin polymer films, the scattering loss in transmittance of samples was decreased because of reduced surface roughness as increasing HFP content. The miscibility of synthesized polymers and PMMA was studied by DSC. It was concluded PTrFE and P(TrFE-co-HFP) are miscible with PMMA. |
