Due to outstanding optical properties, including tunable and narrow emission band and extraordinary quantum yield, quantum dots (QDs) have contributed to the advancement of optoelectronic devices. Efforts for enhancing QD stability, e.g., encapsulation, have been made for expanding practical applications of QDs. Even though many encapsulation methods have been proposed so far, there are problems remained that luminescent properties of QDs are severely reduced during the encapsulation. In this study, QDs in the organic capsules prepared from self-assembly of random copolymer is further encapsulated by inorganic materials for enhancing stability via a sol-gel process. In this process the organic capsule was protected from sol-gel precursor using various surface modifier preventing degradation of optical property of QDs. Morphology and properties of the dually encapsulated QDs were thoroughly studied using SEM, absolute quantum yield, and emission spectrum. |
