As the amount of added conductive fillers increases, the dielectric loss of dielectric elastomer suddenly surges because the conductive pathway is formed throughout the composite. At the same time, near this filler content, the percolation threshold, dielectric constant also soars because tremendous microcapacitors are made along the pathway. So fine control around the percolation threshold is critical in the development of the dielectric elastomer. We suggest the simple way to synthesis uniform and dense silica layer, which should serve as an insulating layer, on the graphene by one-step sol-gel reaction. With different the amount of tetraethyl orthosilicate, we were able to control the thickness of the silica layer. The thicker the layer was, the lower dielectric constant and loss were. Using this easy technic, we could find out the optimum dielectric properties near the percolation threshold. This work will open numerous ways for the commercialization of the dielectric elastomer. |
