ZnO layers doped with viologen derivatives, called V-OH [1,10-bis(4-hydroxypropyl)-[4,40-bipyridine]-1,10-diium bromide] and V-2OH [1,10-bis(2,3-dihydroxypropyl)-[4,40-bipyridine]-1,10-diium bromide], were prepared and implemented as the electron transport layer in inverted polymer solar cells (iPSCs). The improvement in the electron collection capability from the active layer to the electron transport layer enhanced the short-circuit current (Jsc) allowing the improvement in the PCE of the devices. Doping V-OH and V-2OH into the ZnO matrix improves the PCE from 7.4% based on pristine ZnO to 9.0% (Jsc=17.3mAcm-2, Voc=0.74V, FF=70.0%) based on V-OH doped ZnO and 8.6% (Jsc=17.2mAcm-2, Voc=0.73V, FF=68.9%) based on V-2OH doped ZnO, respectively, without sacrificing the electron mobility of the ZnO layer. |
