Recently, the interest in graphene is now growing as an ideal alternate material to carbon nanotube since it possesses quite similar properties to carbon nanotube. And dispersion of graphene is easier than carbon nanotube. Therefore, the preparation of graphene/polymer nanocomposites receives much attention. In this study, we synthesized graphene-containing poly(styrene-co-butylacrylate) (P(S-co-BA)) nanocomposite by latex aggregation method. P(S-co-BA) latex synthesized by a conventional emulsion polymerization was mixed with aqueous surface-modified graphene solution. Then variable amount of flocculant was added to the mixture of the latex and graphene solution at controlled temperature. The effects of the properties of seed latex, nature of the surface chemistry of graphene, and the process parameters in the aggregation step were investigated. |
