CNTs have powerful properties, mechanical, thermal, electrical, and optical properties. The application of CNTs to composite materials with polymers has a great potential. Although uniform dispersion of CNTs in plastic matrices is difficult due to their strong van der Waals attraction, a great deal of research have reported to date. However, the preparation of CNTs nanocomposite with rubber is still restricted. Since the viscosity of rubber is significantly higher than that of plastics, it is more difficult to disperse CNTs in rubber materials. To solve this problem, we explored a simple method, namely, latex aggregation. Poly(styrene-co-butidnene) rubber in emulsion form, ie., emulsion SBR, was mixed with surface treated CNTs at elevated temperature. The surface nature of CNTs, and the process parameters in emulsion aggregation process were investigated. |
