Fabrication of Silicon nanotubes using combined methods of Block copolymer lithography and Metal assisted chemical etching (MACE) |

So far researchers have studied block copolymer lithography and metal assisted chemical etching (MACE) strategies to make various Si nanostructures. However, no one has made silicon nanotube (SiNT) by employing these methods though recently have attracted considerable interest due to the advantage of large surface-to-volume ratio and usage of inner shell surface over silicon nanowires and nanoparticles. Here we used both strategies collectively to fabricate silicon nanotubes by fabricating metal nanoring using block copolymer micelles followed by metal deposition and finally chemically etch the silicon surface. This strategy enables to fabricate silicon nanotubes having uniform size and long range order. These silicon nanotubes are expected to show high electrochemical stability and very high reversible capacity which makes them the most candidate to replace graphite in the design of electrodes for rechargeable lithium batteries. |
