Fluorinated polyurethanes (FPUs) were synthesized by two-step reaction technique to improve the chemical properties of polyurethanes. The hydroxyl-terminated polyurethane was synthesized by polymerizing 1,6-hexamethylene diisocyanate (HDI) with excess poly(ethylene glycol) (PEG) followed by post-reaction with hexafluoropropyleneoxide (HFPO). FPUs were prepared for several different reaction times (4, 8, and 24hr). FPUs showed low surface energy, low moisture absorption, high solvent resistance, improved acid/alkali stability, high thermal stability, low flammability, good chemical resistance, good resistance to oxidation and aging, good protection against corrosion, weathering, and environmental pollution. The structure and morphology of FPUs were characterized by FT-IR and the curing behavior of FPUs was investigated by RPT-3000W. |
