제목 Carbonyl iron microsphere suspension with monodispersed polystyrene additive and its magnetorheological characteristics
초록 To improve the sedimentation problem owing to large density mismatch between dispersed soft-magnetic carbonyl iron (CI) particles and an oil medium in magnetorheological (MR) fluids, we adopted sub-micron sized, monodispersed polystyrene (PS) microspheres synthesized by dispersion polymerization method. Physical morphologies of both the PS and CI particles were confirmed via scanning electron microscope images. Rheological properties of the MR suspensions under applied magnetic field strength were investigated via a rotational rheometer in parallel plate geometry with a magnetic field supplier. Sedimentation stability was also observed by a Turbiscan optical analyzer, demonstrating that MR fluid based with PS particle showed improved sedimentation drawbacks.
