Surface Plasmon Enhanced Emission of ZnO Nanostructures in Block Copolymer Thin Films |

Wide band gap (3.37eV) and high excitonic binding energy (60MeV) make ZnO a promising semiconductor for next generation optoelectronic and ultraviolet laser devices. However, the presence of defect emission along with band emission restricts it from the aforementioned applications. Thus, enhancement of band emission and elimination of defect emission is a key process to utilize the full advantage of ZnO nanoparticles. Here we provide a different approach to improve the quantum efficiency of ZnO by coupling surface plasmon. Using PS-b-PVP diblock copolymer as a template, highly ordered ZnO/Ag nanoparticle arrays with controlled size and interparticle spacing were fabricated. A micellar solution of PS-b-PVP was obtained in toluene, a selective solvent for PS block. Zn(OAc)2H2O and AgNO3 were used as the precursors for ZnO and Ag nanopartilces, respectively. The presence of ZnO and Ag nanoparticles in polymer was confirmed by TEM, UV-VIS absorption and Photoluminescence. |
