The polymeric nanocapsules from methyl methacrylates, methyl methacrylates-d8 and styrenes with nematic liquid crystals such as 4’-pentyl-4-biphenylcarbonitrile and 4’-heptyloxy-4-biphenylcarbonitrile as hydrophobes were prepared by one-step convenient miniemulsion polymerization. Core-shell nano-structure was confirmed from transmission electron microscope with the range of 50 to 100 nm for prepared particles in different conditions. By introducing nematic LCs as costabilizers, the monodispersed core-shell LCs-polymer nanocomposites were formed. In addition, the polymeric nanocomposites obtained from MMA(methyl methacrylate) and LCs as a costabilizer (cosurfactant) showed the narrow size distributions, while the nanoparticles from MMA-d8 and LCs showed the broad size distributions with comparison to those from MMA. The differences of the interfacial tensions between DI water, LCs as hydrophobes and monomers (MMA and MMA-d8) in the miniemulsion droplets result in the differences of particle size distributions. And by increasing the surfactant (Sodium dodecylsulfate) concentration, the droplet size of miniemulsions decreases as expected. |
