Cellulose as the most abundant natural polymer is renewable, biodegradable, and biocompatible material. So this natural polymer is important in the manufacture of numerous products such as paper, textiles and pharmaceuticals. However cellulose is difficult to process in solution, because of its intra- and intermolecular hydrogen bonds. Typical cellulose processes are expensive and problematic environmental. Here, we report a single step approach for fabricating oil embedded cellulose microstructures using a microfluidic. The production of oil-cellulose microstructures are based on the regeneration of cellulose from ionic liquid by simply contacting with water in a microchannel which consists of inner, middle and outer ways. Both the shape and size of oil-drop and the morphology of cellulose were controlled by the flow rates of the oil, cellulose solution with IL and water containing glycerol. This method is simple, fast, and environmentally-friendly compared to the previous methods. |
