Compounds containing highly reactive azide groups, have been widely used in many applications such as high energetic binders, precursors of functional polymers, etc. In this study, the stable spherical particles containing azide groups are prepared in an attempt for the removal of heavy metals, due to strong coordination ability of azide groups with these metal ions such as Hg2+, Pb2+, etc. In order to afford the structural stability of spherical particles, glycidyl azide polymer (GAP) and bis-propargyl succinate (BPS) are suspended in aqueous media with an aid of polyvinyl alcohol and Cu-free Click reaction between azide groups of GAP and alkyne groups of BPS is carried out at 80oC for 3hrs, resulting in spherical particles with narrow particle size distribution. The effect of agitation speed, concentration of stabilizer and content of organic phase on stability, particle size and particle size distribution was studied to control suspension system and provide the required particle size |
