Recently, the effort using biomass as one of the chemical feed stocks has been made by chemical industries producing petroleum-based products due to the depletion of fossil fuels. Adipic acid is one of the versatile chemicals made from fossil fuels that has a number of applications and high demand including the monomer of nylon 6,6. Hence, production of adipic acid in bio-based way is necessary. We have studied the synthesis of adipic acid from glucose that is an economical and environmental-friendly source. By introducing a deoxydehydration(DODH) reaction using rhenuim catalysts, D-glucaric acid or its derivatives, which can be made by oxidation of glucose are converted into muconate derivatives. The intermediate products finally become an adipic acid through a few more steps. Since various rhenium catalysts show different results in the DODH reactions, we will present the studies choosing efficient rhenium catalyst for the reaction of D-glucaric acid. |
