The amide dendrons with focal pyrene unit self-organize into vesicles in aqueous phase. The in-situ inclusion of the focal pyrene units into the cavity of β- or γ-cyclodextrin (CD) induces self-assembled organic nanotubes. The surface of the nanotube is covered with CDs, which can be removed by using poly(propylene glycol) to reversibly generate vesicles. This approach is unique to construct a new class of functional nanotubes. In addition, pyrene of cyclodextrin covered nanotube(CDNT) can exhibit a noticeable fluorescence property by external stimuli or environmental change. As a result of the assembly of gold nanoparticles on CDNT, gold nanoparticles reside in closer proximity to pyrene of CDNT, and therefore the extremely high quenching efficiency was observed. In this view point, we designed a biosensing system based on CDNT using an inhibition assay of biomolecules. The biotin functionalized CDNT (biotin-CDNT) was prepared, and the assembly of gold nanoparticle (Au NP)-streptoavidin conjugates on the surface of biotin-CDNT resulted in the fluorescence quenching. When avidin inhibiting streptoavidin-biotin interactions was added into the solution of Au NP-streptoavidin / biotin-CDNT conjugates, the fluorescence intensity gradually increased as the concentration of avidin was increased. |
