제목 Ternary metal oxide nanoparticles as a novel photocatalyst grafted over BiVO4 nanoworms for enhanced photoelectrochemical water splitting
초록 During past few decades Photoelectrochemical (PEC) water splitting has attracted great attention due to the reduction in the production costs of hydrogen with the help of solar energy. Significant efforts have been made by the scientific communities for the production of the stable ternary metal oxide semiconductors which can enhance the stability and ability to improve the overall production of oxygen. Herein we present ternary metal oxide deposition of Zinc cobaltite (ZnCo2O4) as a photocatalyst layer over bismuth vanadate (BiVO4)to form BiVO4/ZnCo2O4 as a novel composite photoanode for photoelectrochemical water splitting. The structural, topographical and optical analysis were done through field emission scanning electron microscopy, X-ray diffraction and UV-Vis studies. Remarkable 4.4-fold enhancement in photocurrent enhancement is witnessed on BiVO4/ZnCo2O4 (i.e. 1.92 mA/cm2 at 1.23 V vs RHE) composite compared with bare BiVO4 (i.e. 0.43 mA/cm2 at 1.23 V vs RHE) under visible illumination. The optimum coating of ZnCo2O4 over BiVO4 effectively increase the optical thickness of bare BiVO4 nanoworms broadened the light absorption spectrum. This directly influences transfer efficiency of the photogenerated charge carriers by suppressing the electron hole recombination rate. Moreover, these results suggest that the BiVO4/ZnCo2O4 structure has a great potential application for efficient PEC water splitting devices.
