Pressure-sensitive adhesive system and thermoplastic elastomers having enhanced thermo-mechanical properties were designed using renewable resources derived from natural products. Poly(lactide)-poly(menthide)-poly(lactide) (PLA-PM-PLA), Poly(α-methylene-γ-butyrolactone)-poly(menthide)-poly(α-methylene-γ-butyrolactone) (PMBL-PM-PMBL), Poly(γ-methyl-α-methylene-γ-butyrolactone)-poly(menthide)-poly(γ-methyl-α-methylene-γ-butyrolactone) (PMeMBL-PM-PMeMBL) triblock copolymers were synthesized. The polymers were characterized by NMR spectroscopy and size exclusion chromatography. Microphase-separation was determined using small-angle X-ray scattering and atomic force microscopy. Probe tack, peel adhesion, and shear strength tests were adjusted to evaluate the adhesive performance of our PLA-PM-PLA PSAs system. The elastomeric mechanical properties of PMBL-PM-PMBL and PMeMBL-PM-PMeMBL were studied by tensile and elastic recovery experiments, even at elevated temperature. |
