Mineralized hyaluronic acid nanoparticles for the sustained delivery of peptide drugs |

Peptide drugs have received much attention because of their potent biological activities without serious side effects. Their applications, however, have been limited by short biological half-lives and rapid enzymatic degradation in vivo. In this study, we prepared self-assembled nanoparticles (SNPs) based on hyaluronic acid bearing lithocholic acid as the potential carrier of peptide drugs. In an attempt to develop the nanoparticles useful for sustained delivery of the peptide drug, the SNPs were further mineralized using the calcium phosphate. The results suggested that mineralized SNPs showed high stability in a biological buffer and released the peptide drug in a sustained manner. Overall, mineralized SNPs might have a potential as the carrier of the peptide drug. |
