Effects of Curing System on Hardness of Elastomeric Materials |

In this study, the effects of curing system on the hardness of elastomer compounds were investigated as a function of temperature. Elastomres were compounded with various sulfur and peroxide content in order to obtain various kinds of crosslinking system. A newly designed IRHD-type hardness tester and a tensile tester were used to investigate the hardness and stiffness of elastomers. The crosslink density was calculated using the Flory-Rehner equation by the swelling method. The increase in the modulus of elastomer with increase in temperature above Tg is related to an increase in entropy. The results show that the hardness and the modulus increased with increasing the crosslink density. |
