The effects of temperature on hardness of sulfur-cured and peroxide-cured elastomer compounds were investigated. NR and SBR were compounded with various sulfur and peroxide contents, in order to obtain various crosslinking types. A newly designed IRHD-type hardness tester was used to investigate the hardness of the NR and SBR compounds, and the crosslink density was calculated using the Flory-Rehner equation by the swelling method. The hardness of sulfur-cured and peroxide-cured NR and SBR were increased with increasing temperature above the room temperature. The crosslink density of sulfur-cured SBR was increased with increasing temperature, whereas the crosslink density of peroxide-cured SBR was not changed with increasing temperature. |
