제목 Use of SO42--Functionalized NiO as a Platform to Expedite Radical Transfer of OH → SO4•- for the Removal of Hazardous Aqueous Contaminants
초록 Compared to hydroxyl radical (•OH), sulfate radical (SO4•-) is longer-lived and generated more readily over a wide pH range, while possessing higher selectivity to decompose an aqueous pollutant. We previously demonstrated that Niδ+ species (δ ≤ 2) could provide the highest H2O2 fission and phenol decomposition rates among the Group IV metals investigated (Mn, Fe, Co, Ni, or Cu), whereas SO42- immobilized on iron oxide could be radicalized to produce SO4•- via radical transfer of •OH → SO4•-. In this presentation, nickel oxide serves as a novel platform to enable •OH → SO4•- for improving phenol degradation efficiency. SO42--functionalized NiO is also used to clarify the rate determining stage of •OH → SO4•- via kinetic evaluation and DFT calculation.
