1, 3-dimethylimidazolium methyl phosphite ionic liquid ([Dmim][(MeO)(H)PO2]) was found its ability to react with cellulose as a phosphorylating agent to form a imidazolium-containing phosphorylated cellulose product. New phosphorylated cellulose is soluble in water and has a good flame-retardant property, which might open potential applications in biochemical processes. SEM and XRD analyses revealed that the crystallinity of parent cellulose was changed from cellulose I-crystalline phase to amorphous phase in the phosphoryated samples. FT-IR, Elemental Analysis and 13C-NMR experiments demonstrated the presence of phosphorous-containing group located on the cellulose chain in the final product and confirmed that the degree of phosphorylation on cellulose could be controlled by adjusting both reaction temperature and reaction time. |
