Photonic crystals exhibit a structural color which have been used as various photonic applications such as a colorimetric sensor, display, and anti-counterfeiting material. Furthermore, it has been studied by using melt-shear assembly of core-shell nanoparticles to fabricate photonic crystals. Because melt-shear assembly is a dry process, it offers facile, rapid, and simple fabrication of uniform photonic crystals. However, research on core-shell nanoparticles capable of producing photonic crystals by the melt-shear process is still lacking. In this study, we synthesized polydopamine(Pd) incorporated core-shell nanoparticles, which are composed of polystyrene(PS) core, Pd interlayer, and poly(ethyl acrylate) shell, for the fabrication of photonic crystal exhibiting bright structural colors. We newly introduced Pd interlayer to suppress white light scattering of photonic film. By controlling the size of PS and thickness of Pd, photonic crystal films with various structural colors and color brightness were implemented through the melt-shear assembly process. It is expected that the film produced in this way can change its mechanical properties due to the photothermal effect of Pd. |
