제목 Versatile Co-solvent Approach for Hydrophilic Surface Modification of Polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) Membrane
초록 Poly(tetrafluoroethylene)(PTFE) membrane exhibits excellent chemical and thermal stability, which ishighly desirable in chemical separation processes under harsh operatingconditions. However, the hydrophobicity of PTFE membranes limits its uses inindustrial application. We report a facile co-solvent approach to functionalizeporous PTFE membranes by coating crosslinked poly(vinyl alcohol) (XLPVA) layer(< 20 nm). By using alcohol/water co-solvents, PVA solution penetrated to theinner pore networks of PTFE membrane without pretreatments. The XLPVA-coatedPTFE membranes showed enhanced hydrophilicity with decreasing crosslinking timecompared to other literature. The resulted PTFE membranes were highlywater-permeable without any pretreatment, exhibiting a water flux of ~200LMH/bar with improved micropollutant rejection (~99%).
