Polydimethylsiloxane-based Polyurethane Elastomer Actuators |

Polyurethane elastomers(PUEs) known as electrostrictive material have had rapid response time of electric field induced strain, but the amount of displacement was small. To improve this problem, we introduced p olydimethylsiloxane(PDMS) as the soft segment of PUE. PDMS has an extremely low Tg(-123℃), then its mechanical properties sustain at low temperature. PDMS-based PUE was synthesized by conventional prepolymer method and obtained in the form of films by casting method. We installed conductive silicone grease on both sides as electrode. Electric field induced strains of PDMS-based PUE was measured. When voltage is applied to the electrodes, the elastomeric films expand in area and compress in thickness. The dielectric constant, displacement and recovery time were also measured. |
