This study was performed to establish microwave-assisted extraction (MAE) conditions for the production of bioactive materials with antioxidant, skin-whitening, and anti-wrinkle activities from Orostachys japonicus. Central composite design was used to optimize the extraction of bioactive materials from O. japonicus. The key variations for MAE used for the optimization were microwave power, extraction time, and ethanol concentration. Among the conditions applied to the optimization, it was found that ethanol concentration had the most significant effects on radical scavenging activity (RSA), tyrosinase activity inhibition (TAI), and collagenase activity inhibition (CAI). Optimal conditions were microwave power 535.2w, extraction time 61.4 seconds, and ethanol 49.8%, indicating that RSA, TAI, and CAI were 22.2%, 62.3%, and 85.2%. Overall, O. japonicus is an excellent natural cosmetic materials containing antioxidant, skin-whitening, and anti-wrinkle properties. |
