Lignocellulosic biomass and macroalgae are attractive carbon resources for bio-based chemical production and are mainly composed of glucose, xylose, and galactose. However, most bacteria show the diauxic growth when they are cultivated in mixed sugars, which should be solved to ensure economical biomass-based chemical production. Clostridium species are the most representative bio-producer for butyric acid; yet, there is limited information on simultaneous utilization of multiple sugars by Clostridium species. In this study, we will present butyric acid production using Clostridium strains which can simultaneously utilize sugars from lignocellulosic biomass or red-seaweed. |
