제목 Electrochemical surface modification of bioelectrodes using hyaluronic acid for improved biocompatibility
초록 Bioelectrodes that can mediate electrical signals with living system have been widely used for biosensor, prosthetic probes, etc. However, the electrical properties of bioelectrodes are commonly impaired in the biological environment due to biofouling of the bioelectrode surfaces. Hence, the development of facile and effective surface modification of bioelectrodes is highly required. In this study, we chemically modified biocompatible hyaluronic acid with dopamine (DA-HA) and employed it for electrochemical electrode modification. The modified electrodes exhibit highly hydrophilic surfaces and strong coating adhesion. Besides, the electrochemical impedance of the DA-HA-modified electrodes maintains similar to bare electrodes. Furthermore, DA-HA-modified electrodes could minimize adhesion of fibroblasts and alleviate the scar tissue formation in vivo. In conclusion, our novel electrochemical passivation of electrodes using DA-HA can improve biocompatibility of bioelectrodes.
