제목 | ROS-scavenging Inorganic Nanomedicine for Treatment of Inflammatory Bowel Disease |
초록 | Inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) is one type of autoimmune diseases which is characterized by inflammation on the gastrointestinal (GI) tract. There have been numerous approaches to treat IBD, including Chron’s disease and ulcerative colitis using nanomedicines. For safe and convenient administration of nanomedicine, we demonstrate an inflammation-targeting ROS-scavenging inorganic nanomedicine that can mimic enzymatic activities including superoxide dismutase and catalase. The inorganic nanomedicine comprises of mesoporous silica nanoparticles (MSNs) loaded with ROS-scavenging ceria nanoparticles. The resulting inorganic nanomedicine showed a stable high ROS-scavenging property in simulated GI tract condition. Furthermore, in the 3D inflamed tissue-mimicking environment, the inorganic nanomedicine exhibits a preferential adhesion to inflamed epithelial cell via electrostatic interaction and significantly reduced the production of NF-kB related cytokines. This result suggests that an inflammation-targeting inorganic nanomedicine could be an alternative therapeutic modality in IBD treatment. |
