There have been intensive interests in synthesis of “smart nanofluids”, since they can change flow properties in complex fluids. A good application can be found in field of enhance oil recovery. The nanofluids have known to kick up the surface tension at an oil boundary, which is essential for enhancing oil recovery efficiency. In order to develop an advanced nanofluid system, in this study, we introduce a water-based nanofluid consisting of 20 nm-sized silica nanoparticles with a zwitterionic polymer nanoshell. This zwitterionic polymer shell can give rise to the repulsive force to the rock surface. Then, we show that these nanoparticles surprisingly improve the fluidity of complex oil fluids, which is quite comparable to conventional nanofluids. |
