The Synthesis and Characterization of Organoclays |

We prepared the organoclays which can form stable suspension in polar organic solvents via treatment with chain-extended organifiers and prepared the organoclays. The effect of the chemical structure of the organifiers on the properties of organoclays was investigated. The d-spacing of organoclays treated with hydrophobic PTMG (poly (tetramethylene ether glycol)) increased with increasing the molecular weight of organifier due to the increase of its chain length and the chains of the organifiers try to retain its coin-like conformation. Also the organoclays treated with PTMG had high value of IEF, so the organoclays could form the stable suspension in polar organic solvent such as DMF and NMP. |
