It is well known that stereoregular configuration of vinyl polymer gives change of physical characteristics and enhancement of mechanical properties. Syndiotactic poly(vinyl alcohol) (s-PVA) has been known to have different properties due to the increased intermolecular hydrogen bondings between the adjacent chains. Actually, s-PVA films have superior mechanical properties to those of atactic ones. In this study, to characterize the durability, transmittance and polariting efficiency of s-PVA/dye complex film, we prepared s-PVA with number-average degree of polymerization of 4,000 and syndiotactic diad content of 58%. And the s-PVA/dye complex films were prepared at various conditions and characterized. The results were also compared with those of atactic PVA (a-PVA). Durability of the s-PVA/dye film was far higher than that of the a-PVA/dye film. |
