In recent years, there has been an increasing interest in colorimetric textile sensors based on halochromic dyes, which can detect gas leaks with the naked eye. In this study, a UV-induced photografting method is introduced to dye cotton fabrics to improve the dyeability and wash fastness of halochromic dyes. For this purpose, two types of graftable rhodamine dyes were designed and synthesized by introducing a radical-sensitive group to a rhodamine derivative with excellent pH sensitivity. The spectral properties of the synthesized dyes and the acidic gas detection performance and durability of the fabricated sensors were investigated. Both sensors exhibited distinctive color change and superior detection performance under acidic condition. In addition, they have outstanding durability after washing and drying. |
