Solution Synthesis of Conjugated Polymer by Using Rigid-rod Polyelectrolyte |

Poly(3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene) (PEDOT) is a conjugated polymer with high electrical conductivity in oxidized state, but has low processability due to its insolubility. In order to enhance solution-processability, PEDOT is commonly synthesized and used in aqueous dispersion stabilized by counter polyanions such as poly(styrenesulfonic acid) (PSS). However, the insulating property and low crystallinity of the polyanion lead to lowering its electrical properties. In this work, PEDOT was synthesized in aqueous medium by using rigid-rod conjugated polyelectrolyte as a template to enhance carrier transport. The polyelectrolyte was prepared by Ullmann reaction and act as counter polyanion and dopant for PEDOT. Thin films were casted from the dispersion and characterized by SEM, XRD, XPS and UV-vis spectroscopy. The electrical properties of the films were investigated. |
