A series of three-branched molecules with cyano-vinylene bridges were synthesized. Among those, molecules having bromine or iodine groups were self-assembled to form rod-shaped aggregates, which were confirmed by optical microscopy and scanning electron microscopy. Small-angle X-ray scattering study revealed that the aggregates had layered structures. These molecules showed blue-shift in photoluminescence under 365 nm wavelength light after simple grinding. The original photoluminescence colors were restored when they were exposed to tetrahydrofuran vapor for several seconds. However, molecules having no halogen atoms didn’t form self-assembled structures and didn’t show piezochromic or vapochromic properties. |
