제목 Preparation of Cholesteric Liquid Crystal based Photonic Ball via Microfluidics System
초록 Cholesteric liquid crystals (CLCs) exhibits some unique optical properties due to its helical arrangement of molecules. CLCs can be easily controlled by the concentration of chiral dopant with helical twisting power. However, the fluidity severely limits the ease of processing and structural stability, thereby restricting their flexible applications. Here, we designed CLCs microparticles based on photopolymerizable reactive mesogens (RMs) using microfluidic system. Capillary microfluidics approach provides a platform for the generation of uniformly sized microparticles. The CLC-RM droplets have been solidified through the process of in-situ photopolymerisation for 3D rigid network under irradiation with UV light in the presence of photo-initiators. The CLC microparticles have chiral arrangements with spherical symmetry as evidenced by polarized optical microscopy and scanning electronic microscopy.
