Synthesis and absorption characterization of super absorbent terpolymers |

Novel superabsorbent terpolymers were prepared by the polymerization of carboxylic functionalized monomer, vinyl sulfonic acid, and acrylic acid. All monomers were neutralized with sodium hydroxide in order to enhance absorption performance of terpolymer. We suggested a mechanism for the terpolymer formation. We confirmed the structure of superabsorbent polymers (SAPs) using FT-IR spectroscopy and measured absorption properties such as centrifuge retention capacity and absorbency under load in 0.9 wt. % saline solution. In addition, we confirmed the absorption properties of the terpolymers according to input molar ratio of monomer, neutralization degree, ammonium persulfate content, and cross-linking agent content. |
