Optimization in coating thickness of a silane coupling agent on a ceramic particle surface for improvement of the dispersion stability in photopolymers |

For preparation of ceramic and photopolymer composites for stereolithography (SLA) 3D printing process, Al2O3 ceramic particles were initially coated with a silane coupling agent (VTES, Vinyltriethoxysilane) through a hydrolysis and condensation reaction, and the VTES-coated Al2O3 particles were then reacted with a commercial photopolymer (3DK-A83B) based on IPN phenomena occurring in the interphase region. Al2O3 ceramic particles well wrapped by VTES were observed in SEM, TEM and element mapping images, and the average coating thickness of VTES on Al2O3 ceramic particle surface was measured by TEM. Depending on the VTES coating thickness on Al2O3 ceramic particle surface, the dispersion stability of ceramic particles in the photopolymer solution was investigated by the Turbiscan. The tensile properties (stress-strain curves) of 3D printed objects (ASTM D638 Type Ⅴ) were investigated using the VTES-coated Al2O3/3DK-A83B composite solutions with various coating thickness. |
