Polymerization of Oleylamine with Sulfur for in-situ Hybridization of Inorganic-Polymer Nanocomposites |

We demonstrate a novel and simple strategy for hybridization by in-situ nucleation of inorganic nanoparticles within polymerized oleylamine in a one-pot reactor. The double bonds contained in oleylamine react with sulfur diradicals resulting in copolymerization of oleylamine with sulfur. When metal chlorides were directly injected into this copolymer solution, in-situ nucleation of metal sulfide nanocrystals coordinated by the oleylamine-sulfur copolymer occured. The nanocrystals formed in-situ were well dispersed in the polymeric matrix even with high loading amount. Furthermore, hybrid films can be easily obtained simply by spin-casting. The polymerized oleylamine was characterized by C13NMR, H1NMR, DSC, and Raman spectroscopy. Optical properties and internal morphologies of the nanohybrid films as a function of nanocrystal loading amount were obtained with various characterization methods including with TEM. |
